Starbucks opened its first store in Seattle, Washington in 1971. Jerry Baldwin and Gordon Bowker were the original owners of Starbucks until they decided to sell the company to Howard Schultz. Howard Schultz traveled to Italy and brought back certain words, expressions, and ways of the Italian people. Howard wanted to incorporate the friendliness and respect customers received in the Italian coffee shops in Italy to Starbucks. Starbucks was completely replaced. The logo and the name stayed the same but only because Starbucks was already a popular place at the time of purchase. Starbucks started with one store and has expanded to over 19,000 stores in over 62 countries. (Company, Starbucks. 2014)
